A visitor to this site asked how to quit MySpace. Some people might wonder "why do you have to quit? why not just stop logging into MySpace?"

That's not necessarily a good idea. If you stop using MySpace but you don't close your account, then you're leaving your personal information online for anyone to see. Depending on your account settings, you may even be letting people continue to post comments to your MySpace site, comments you'll never see yourself, but which will be visible to anyone who visits your old MySpace site.

If you decide to stop using MySpace, we very much recommend that you close your MySpace account. Here are the brief instructions on how to cancel your MySpace account (excepted from the MySpace Primer):

If you stop using MySpace, you should go through the procedure of formally cancelling your account. Otherwise, the information you posted will remain online and available for others to see.

In addition, we recommend emptying your account of all personal information, all postings, all photos, everything, before you cancel the account.

The standard way to cancel a MySpace account is to go to the Account Settings page and click the “Cancel Account” link near the top of the page. But, this will not work if the email account you use for logging in is invalid or is not accessible by you.

If you cannot use the standard cancel account procedure, click the “FAQ” link at the bottom of every MySpace page and look for entries relating to canceling accounts.

If nothing in the FAQ applies, send a message to:

customercare@myspace.com

Your message should include the URL of the profile page for the account you want deleted. Go to the page and copy the URL from your browser’s address box and paste it into your email message.

I keep trying to cancel my account with myspace and they are not cancelling it. I have tried three times in the past week. They are supposed to send an email. Nothing. Please advise.

Many people have reported problems recently with deleting their MySpace.com account using the standard procedure. MySpace.com has been having problems with its systems ever since the power outage that brought down the entire site several weeks ago.

In some cases, people try to delete their accounts, and nothing seems to happen, then after a period of several days MySpace deletes the account. If this doesn’t happen in your case, try sending an email from the email account you use for logging into MySpace to customercare@myspace.com. Explain what’s happened, tell them you never receive the email after you initiate the delete account process, etc. Hopefully, they’ll take care of the problem.

By the way, we also recommend deleting everything from your account before you cancel it. MySpace can retain a copy of your profile even after it is deleted. So, our recommendation is to clear out everything.

i have done everything that i was supposed to…....... i clicked the account settings and got the email and i clicked on the link that i was suppose to…..... it has been past 48 hours but yet my account is STILL not fully deleted! sometimes my display piccy of that account would appear and when i would click my name i could STILL see my piccies, blogs, comments, AND my whole friends list!!!

please help me on making sure that my account is deleted for good…......

Journie and Sophia: if the standard procedure isn’t working (and I’ve heard plenty of reports from people where that’s the case) — have you tried sending an email to customercare@myspace.com from the email account you use for logging into MySpace?

If nothing works for actually deleting the account, you could just delete everything in your profile, to make your profile just a blank page, delete all pictures, all blog posts, all comments you made, etc. That’s a lot of work, but in our book we actually recommend that everyone who leaves MySpace should do that, because MySpace keeps a copy of your account even after you cancel your account — and who knows what may happen to that information in the future?

I deleted my MySpace account a couple months ago. I never thought of going into the account to delete information first. The account is completely gone yet I am still receiving blog emails from those I had subscribed to.

I’ve tried several times to get MySpace to wipe my email address from their system. I got fed up after receiving back a standard reply on how to delete an account as if they never bothered reading what I wrote. How can I delete an account that no longer exists.

I will try yet again using the customercare@myspace.com contact.

My spouse changed my e-mail adress and password when I left my myspace account open and I can’t get it back so I want to cancell it completely but it will only send the password to the changed e-mail account. How do I cancell this and start a new one.

James – MySpace has an option where they send the current password to the email account you use for logging in. But, if you don’t have access to the changed email account, then that option won’t work for you. You may have no choice other than trying to contact MySpace, or starting a new account.

Sara — I don’t have an answer for you. customercare@myspace.com is your best bet, but they are often not responsive unless the situation is critical (like if you’re reporting an underage user, or pictures that violate the terms, or a malicious hacker profile that’s spreading viruses or a worm, etc.).

There’s not much we can do about that, unfortunately…

just cancelled my account got the email str8 away like 30secs.. mind u it is 6:53am UK time, the email says account will be deleted in 48hrs etc etc,. will see,.

i have a question for Sara——- if your address and account was deleted from myspace….then how could they still send you emails? i’ts not like you can login and actually read the blogs. That really gets me worried because i cancelled my account but i dion’t have access you’re deleted yet still getting mail from them?wtfff did you search your email and see if your profile pops up? perhaps your email is still registered. i didn’t think this could happen. Someone help…..!!

My brother had a myspace profile, he entered a load of stuff on it, including coding from mygen for a background and contact table. He saved it the night before and before i went to bed it said i had new picture comments and my brother said he left some but it said the profile has been deleted. So i wondered why they deleted him? He never received an email or anything but it says his profile is deleted but when my brother signs into myspace he can still edit his profile it’s just where he put content it is now blank, is it possible someone could have hacked his account? Or is that myspace deleted him for a reason?

it might be because you recently deleted your account. it takes some time until they delete it and wipe the emai laddress from the system. Update me on whether it has stopped or no, and when you deleted it.

i just got the myspace, right? THEN i changed my mind coz one of my friends had a stalker from it! Soo now this is whats happening, i clicked on cancel my account, i clicked the cancel then OMG I FORGOT TO VERIFY MY EMAIL ADDRESS omg im kinda like full on worried coz i dont want the same thing happening to me as my friend and im like having a heart attack (figure of speech)! so after sending the cancellataion thingy i clicked on verify my email and i did that stuff u supposed to do, i did it a couple of times as well as the cancel one and i havent got an email for any!

i have registered my band on a private myspace account instead of artist account.i also registred the url wich is the band name.
when i realized it i canceled my account (got connfirmation)and tried to signe up as a band but couldn’t get the same url.
do you think there is a chance to get it back??(the url)

i accidently made a regular myspace instead of a myspace music for my band and so the url I want it taken now is there anyway to change a regular account to a music one?

Adrian: you should be able to convert your regular myspace account into a music account by contacting MySpace. Once you convert to a music account, you will not be able to convert back to a regular account.

I’ve been waiting to be able to convert a normal account to a music one for a year, as long as i know it was imposible, but now that i’m reading this i have a hope, are you sure this is for real ?

I tried to contact myspace previously for some other stuff and they never responded, any ideas on waht should i do ?

Stealth: It was possible to convert a regular MySpace account to a Music account as of mid-2006 — I saw a posting in a forum MySpace had set up for answering questions people had for MySpace, and an official MySpace person said you could change a standard account to a Music account, but you couldn’t change back once you converted.

The problem, yes, is going to be to get MySpace’s attention to ask them to convert your account. They do not have a good record when it comes to responding to people’s requests.

One solution is to just create a new account and make it a Music account from the start.

I can echo what all have said. Cancelled account this past tuesday evening, confirmation email, waited 48 hours, nothing, emailed myspace for help got auto gen reply, re-did entire process this morning, still online. Help please!!!
